When I was five years old, I went to our little bathroom, put on makeup and a blouse and proudly came out to show my parents and siblings how pretty I was. I was met with horror, disgust and immediate condemnation. My face was roughly scrubbed off and I was chastised to never again act like a ‘girl’ or I would go to “HELL”. My inherent worth and dignity as a child was immediately crushed and replaced with fear and rejection. It was a moment of sudden realization that I was not like everyone else and that I better ‘act’ like everyone else or be eternally tormented.
Today, some forty years after that experience, and after years of hiding deep within my closet, I have embarked on my journey towards living as the gender affirming woman that I have always been. Through humorous life stories, insight and the joy of finally being free and authentic, I share the discoveries of my journey to wholeness and freedom with your congregation, group or professional staff.
A seminar, interactive workshop, a Sunday service and talk-back on gender identity will enable individuals to better serve themselves and their communities through:
I share my life story in the hopes that others can begin to understand the oppression that exists within our country and the world towards those of us who are Transgender.
